Tips

Make an inventory of your stored items and keep in a safe place
at home.

Plan your storage space.
§
Place the items you think you will need most often at the front
of the container.
§
Allow for walk-ways in between your stored items.
§
Use strong uniform size boxes for easy storage and
organisation.
§
Stack your lighter boxes on top of the heavier ones and don’t
stack too high.
§
Chinaware and glassware should be wrapped in paper or bubble
wrap and packed in sturdy boxes.
§
Mirrors and pictures should be wrapped in cardboard and stood
on end – mark with FRAGILE.
§
Cover fabric furniture with sheets or blankets to protect from
dust.
§
Furniture with drawers can also be used for storing smaller and
fragile items.
§
Tables with removable legs should be “broken-down” to save
space.
§
Store sofas on end to save space – stack wrapped cushions on
top.
§
Do not stack sharp or heavy objects on top of upholstered
furniture.
§
If you store mattresses on their side, prop them up so that
they don’t sag.
§
Make sure your fridge or freezer is clean and dry and leave the
door open ajar – use the space inside to store smaller
items.
§
Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE – i.e. paint, thinners,
petrol, solvents etc
§
Use a good quality lock on your door.
